GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

HFIA acts as the industry lobbyist for retailers and suppliers.. We work at evey level of government, and have been involved in most legislation affecting our industry at both the county and state levels of government.

DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION

HFIA provides information to members via fax bulletins, email bulletins, newsletters, and the Hawaii Food Industry Magazine published by HFIA.

SOCIAL MIX PROGRAMS
-
To allow industry members to meet on neutral grounds, and to socialize and share ideas and solutions, HFIA has two golf tournaments annually, an Annual Social, and an Annual Banquet, Convention, and Annual Meeting with awards presentation.

HAWAII FOOD & BEVERAGE MAGAZINE

The HF&B Magazine offers an advertisement opportunity for firms wishing to provide impressions to Hawaii's retailers and suppliers. Four publications a year are distributed to over 2,000 industry membes throughout Hawaii, with industry updates and news. Contact the HFIA office for rate cards, editorial information, press releases, and Letters to the Editor

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

MADE IN HAWAII FESTIVAL

To support Hawaii and our industry members producing local products, HFIA produces the Made In Hawaii Festival, which provides the opportunity for several hundred firms to sell their products to buyers from Hawaii, the Mainland, Canada, and Guam who attend the Festival, as well as to the over 32,000 attendees visiting the Festival annually. www.madeinhawaiifestival.com

RAINBOW FEVER PROMOTION

The HFIA Rainbow Fever Program was designed to provide scholarships for athletes at the University of Hawaii. For industry members, it provides an effective promotional tool where firms can utilize the program to build sales, with a portion of the sales going to the scholarship program. Rainbow Fever has donated over $1 million in scholarships to date, and retains another $1 million in the fund to assure perpetuity. Only HFIA member firms can participate in this program.

LISH PROGRAMS
-
LISH (Legislative Information Services of Hawaii) provides HFIA with its Information Center, along with Group Programs available only to members, including:

  • Medical plans where employees can pick and choose between HMSA and Kaiser, with or without drug, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Hulman Resources bulletins, signs, and posters relating to laws, regulations, and Defensive Management subjecs all available on the LISH Website. Access code required, at no additional cost to HFIA members. You can visit the LISH Website and download free government posters at: www.lish.info
  • Legal information and research on laws and ordinances that affect business are available through LISH at no additional cost to HFIA members.
  • Forklift Certification Program to meet Federal OSHA Regulations . This is required for all new employees, renewable every three years.
  • Truck driver Improvement classes to meet State law. This covers the classroom requirement, as well as quizzes and the necessary documentation for file.
